I'm embarking on a 500-mile journey along the iconic Camino de Santiago to raise awareness and funds for ALS research, in memory of my dear friend Brian Bender. Our inspiration to tackle this pilgrimage together was sparked by the movie "The Way" (2010), starring Martin Sheen and directed by Emilio Estevez. The film's powerful story of self-discovery, friendship, and perseverance resonated deeply with us, and we vowed to embark on this adventure together.

Tragically, Brian's ALS diagnosis soon after dashed our dreams of walking the Camino together. Undeterred, I'm now honoring our promise and his memory by completing the journey solo, with Brian's backpack on my shoulders.

In Brian's honor, I'm founding "AdventureBender.org," a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting ALS research and empowering people to embrace movement and adventure while raising vital funds for this devastating disease. Our inaugural event is my Camino de Santiago trek, symbolizing the journey Brian and I had envisioned.

AdventureBender.org aims to inspire others to move, to act, and to make a difference in the fight against ALS. By sharing Brian's story and my journey, we hope to raise awareness, drive progress, and ultimately find a cure for this debilitating disease. The organization will support research initiatives, host fundraising events, and foster a community that embodies hope, resilience, and determination.
